DM Albums™ 2.4 Released December 22nd, 2009

DM Albums™ 2.4 has been released. This release adds two often-requested features and one major security update.

The security update the resolves the download vulnerability documented here. Thanks to the team at nDarkness.com for their continued efforts in making our products more secure.

The release also includes two new features: a drag-n-drop photo sorter that allows you to change the order of the photos in your album in a drag-n-drop interface (shown below) as well as the ability to add a link to the main photo in DM Albums.

  2. Louis says:

    Dear, when I click upgrade automatically, there is an error occur. Details as followed.

    Note: missing object
    line: 113
    code: 0
    URI: http://www.9tu.info/wp-content/plugins/dm-albums/javascript/browser.js

    Everyone got this error, or update smooth?

  3. frank says:

    @Louis
    Have you tried reloading the page, emptying your cache and/or restarting your browser? There are quite a few new files in this latest version, and it’s possible not all files are being refreshed as necessary. If you try those things and keep having trouble, post back here and we’ll see what we can figure out.

    Thanks!

  4. Louis says:

    All question have been resolved, thank you so much!
    Best wishes for you and all your team, and Merry Christmas!

  5. frank says:

    @louis
    Great. Thanks.

  6. shawn says:

    Just an fyi to let you know that all the links on this site are not working. I can’t find downloads, products etc.. was my first visit to this site after reading about the 3.0 merge. Gallery looks interesting, but can’t download it

  7. frank says:

    @shawn
    Thanks for letting us know. We made some structural changes to the site and it had an unexpected ripple effect to a bunch of other things. Thanks for pointing it out; all should be working now, although if you find something that’s not, please let us know!

    Thanks again for the note.

  8. shawn says:

    I managed to download it today. Sent an email about 403 errors, but figured it may be better to post question here. If not, please delete comment.

    I am running wp-mu 2.8.6 and demo gallery embeds properly. When I try to add my own gallery I receive a 403 error upon uploading images. What directories do I need to chmod change? (my best guess as to real problem)

    Your right…. this should be in the core. It is so much easier than the built in system.

  9. shawn says:

    further inspection of the error shows:
    mod_security: Access denied with code 403. Pattern match “^Shockwave Flash” at HEADER(“USER-AGENT”) [severity "EMERGENCY"] [hostname "mywebsite.com"] [uri "/wp-content/plugins/dm-albums/wp-dm-upload.php"] [unique_id "S0iwyEUuJUQAAFyAUBo"]

    I do not have it fixed yet, but hope by posting this here, that it may help someone else who comes up with a 403 error upon upload. If I find a solution I will post it back here.

  10. shawn says:

    OK mod security is fixed. No errors being reported anymore.

    However: When I add an album name and select images to upload that part works. It says processing and all files say they upload.

    The problem is the new album name does not show up, nor do there seem to be any photo’s in the dm-albums directory when I browse via ssh.

    I am not getting any errors either in apache, php, or system logs.

    Is there something else I should try?
    —I do not mind giving the dutchmonkey admin server access if needed.

  11. I’m also experiencing the same problem. I was having 403 errors on one server then I checked it on another server which uploaded the images no problem – however the albums are not created.

    I didn’t have any problems on localhost (XAMPP).

  12. Also – I would like to have this shown just as a slide show without any thumbnails. Is there a parameter for hiding the thumbnails? BTW Great work on the plugin.

  13. frank says:

    @shawn:
    Hi there, the directory that needs to have 777 permimssion is the directory listed in the Album Upload Folder in the DM Albums Options Panel.

    Any further information you can provide would be most appreciated to help me identify a programmatic fix to this problem.

    We would be happy to look into the problem directly as well with admin and FTP access to help troubleshoot and identify the problem. You can provide that info over email.

    Thanks!

  14. frank says:

    @John Crumpton
    Hi John,
    This sounds like a permissions problem similar to Shawn. Setting the Albums Upload Folder to chmod 777 should get your uploads working properly.

    As far as hiding the thumbnails, that should be possible but will take some work. I’ll work on incorporating this into the plugin. Thanks for the suggestion!

  15. Jennifer says:

    When I used Chrome, the left/right arrows on the thumbnails do not appear. There is no way to scroll the thumbnail bar. The caption also is stuck at the first photo’s caption, unless logged in.

  16. frank says:

    Thanks for the report, Jennifer! We’ll look into this right away.

  17. charles says:

    Ok I am lost. I just added a post to my site, added dm album and noticed that could not edit captions so i saw there was a newer version and i installed it. Now i seem to have lost all my pictures i cannot figure out what this “album manager” is supposed to do. Are there any instructions? isnt there an upgrade path? What happens to all my existing albums? This pretty much sucks. my old version had last log entry around last August.

  18. frank says:

    Hi there, I’m sorry you’re having trouble. If your albums were lost after upgrading, I’m guessing you were storing your albums in the dm-albums plugin directory. Storing them here is not recommended by DutchMonkey Productions (as described in the FAQ) because WordPress deletes your plugin directory before installing the update. This is a rather destructive thing, and there is unfortunately nothing we can do about other than recommend they’re not stored there.

    The new version you installed has an album manager that lets you upload your photos and manage them directly from within the WordPress editor. It uploads them to a place where they will be safe from WordPress deleting them!

  19. Jeff says:

    I just installed DM Albums 2.4. Album creation appears to be fine. Here’s the problem. I get [album: {album url}] inserted; however, it shows [album: {album url}]. That’s with the bracket etc. showing in the post or page. The link to album url works fine and shows the album. I am using WordPress 2.9.1.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

  20. Hi, i can’t drag the photos to sort it. Tried it in both firefox and chrome. im using dm albums 2.4.4 and wordpress 9.1 (tried it also in wp 9)

  21. Pei says:

    [album ..] tag was not parsed

    Hi there, I’ve downloaded your plugin, installed it and was trying it, everything was just wonderful until I check the post.. the [album:http://URL-to-album was not parsed by system, they were just handled as normal text and outputted..
    I am using WP 2.9.1 and DM 2.4.4
    Thank you for your help in advance

  22. frank says:

    @Jeff
    Hi there, are you using the curly brackets as well? The curly brackets should not be included in the album syntax.
    Thanks for using DM Albums!

  23. frank says:

    @Tricia Aguila
    Can you describe a little more of what you’re talking about? After you click the “Photo Sorter” in the album list or the “Sort Photos” button from the Album Manager, what happens? Can you drag the photos but not drop them, or can you not drag them at all?

  24. frank says:

    @Pei:
    That version of DM Albums should definitely work; are you able to see the album in the DM Ablums Options panel? Also, make sure the album syntax has at least one space between the colon (:) and the url, as in

    [album: http://URL-to-album

  25. Jeff says:

    Frank, No curly brackets. This is what appears (either Visual or HTML view in Edit Page) when I use insert:

    [album: http://expedioscientiam.net/locker/wp-content/plugins/dm-albums/dm-albums.php?currdir=/locker/wp-content/uploads/dm-albums/Jay/

    This link works but it is a link:
    Photos

  26. Shashanna says:

    I am having the same issue as Jeff. I am using WP 2.9.1 and DM 2.4.4. Any insight?

  27. frank says:

    @Jeff and Shashanna
    This is very strange; are you by any chance using WAMP on the backend or working with a local server? I’ve heard tales from users that free sites with a lot of adds running has caused a problem, as well as that moving from WAMP to LAMP seems to do the trick.

    I am working a few bugs out and will be pushing out a new release in the coming days; hopefully it will resolve your issue for you.

  28. Sheraz says:

    Hi guys big problem I cant delete any files within the WordPress admin panel when delete is pressed it blanks the box just showing sort pictures button. Secondly how can you slow down the thumbnail scrolling speed and perhaps have two lines of thumbnails.
    Thanks

  29. Deirdre says:

    I’m having the same issue as Jennifer with Chrome not displaying the left and right arrows in the thumbnail bar. Any progress on this?

  30. Deirdre says:

    Also, in Opera 10.10, when gallery page is loaded, thumbnail bar and thumbnails appear, but no image below that. When an image from the thumbnail bar is selected, the image displays below briefly, but then quickly fades out, displaying nothing.

  31. Doug Hill says:

    I am using WordPress 2.9.2 and DM-albums 2.4

    The Albums appear in my posts as they should, but the Album manager appears as a title bar which expands with a small blank space below when I click on it. As well, caption edits will not save.

    On the subject of where to store my photos: the only place that works for me is as a sub-directory of the dm-albums directory. Anywhere else, and the album will not post.

  32. Getting this message when I try and resort photos:

    A problem was encountered while getting the DM Albums Photo Sorter. Please try again.

    Can’t seem to sort at all :(

  33. geri says:

    I dunno what happened, The album is showing all images on my post/page. After I’ve entered all the captions on the images (outside wordpress), the Manage Album Details and Photo Sorter doesn’t work anymore when I click on them? Please help.

    Great Plugin BTW.

  34. Arrasoja says:

    I am having the same issue as Jeff and Shashanna.
    I am using WP 2.9.2 and DM 2.4.8.1, on a Linux based Shared Hosting enviroment.
    Plugin Activated, Gallery is shown when managed but not in the post.
    Any insight?

  35. Boyd says:

    Same problem here. Photo Sorter doesn’t work in IE8, Safari or Firefox.
    Even edited the browse.cap file to reset the order, and the photos still show in the original file sort order.

  36. Megan says:

    I too can not get the sorter to work. When I click on the Photo Sorter link, it pops up the window that used to allow me to drag and drop the images. Now it won’t let me drag them at all. I’m running it in FF.

    Thanks!

  37. Matt says:

    New to all this, but whenever I try to create a new album, it goes through the upload process but then nothing happens – no folder. PLease help

  38. Akul Mehta says:

    Hi I have a multi-author website. I want the authors to put up their own albums which I can do successfully thanks to your settings. However, if I allow them to put captions, then one author can change the captions of another author. Is there any way to restrict that?

  39. Akul Mehta says:

    also is it possible to add a watermark?

  40. Akul Mehta says:

    Ok one more question – is it possible to show some of the latest albums on the frontpage of my blog?

  41. Rimgaudas says:

    Hello everybody,
    I want to ask you, how did that I could see “caption” below photo ?
    In options Display Captions: is YES, but when I want to save my caption it doesn’t saved, what to do ?

  42. sally says:

    The photo sprter will not work..I can’t grab or drop the photos! help!!

  43. r0man.de says:

    Hey Guys,
    first of all, thats an amazing plugin.
    But I got a strange misbehaviour:
    IE7: All works fine
    Firefox: The captionbox will displayed incompletely (only about 60%).
    And the strangest is, that the followings signs appear: ,,” (above the plugin). In IE that doesnt happen. Any suggestions? ;(

    Thanks guys!

  44. Peter says:

    Great product, thank you!
    I do have one problem that no one has mentioned. The DM Albums Album manager shows in my WordPress 3.0 editor and I can create new albums and upload photos. They even show up on my page as described. However, if I click on “Photo Sorter” or “Manage Album Details” I get a blank loading screen and nothing else. It never loads these control panels. How can I fix this?

  45. Kristin says:

    Hi! Love the product! Like Sally, I’m finding that the sorter doesn’t work anymore : ( It did before I upgraded! Thanks for the plugin.

  46. Margit says:

    I can create albums when logged in as an administrator, but when logged in as an author, the Add New Post page just shows the DM Albums Album Manager title bar, with no actual album widget.

    Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin and now can’t create albums as an admin either.

    I am using WP 3.0.1 and DM Albums 2.4.8.1,

  47. Noobie says:

    Hi. Probably a Noob question but I’ve found no answer:
    Your plug-in prints out code for me. It won’t display any Photos.

    Im running XAMPP offline with WordPress 3.0.
    I activated your plugin and created a test gallery but when I insert it and publish, it just prints the following text:

    [album:
    http://localhost/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/dm-albums/dm-albums.php?currdir=/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/dm-albums/gallery/

    - I’m not missing any EXIF dlls. I checked this.

    Any Ideas?

  48. Nav says:
